NOW is the perfect time to get involved with the work to abolish the death penalty in Ohio.

Joe D'Ambrosio became the 6th man exonerated from death row in Ohio on January 23, 2012. Cuyahoga County prosecutors withheld evidence in the 1989 trial that would have indicated D'Ambrosio was innocent. After years of legal battles, the US Supreme Court denied a request from the State of Ohio, effectively ending the case. Joe spent nearly 22 years on death row for a crime he did not commit.

This exoneration comes at a time when Ohio's lethal injection process has come under intense scrutiny. A US District Court ruled, for a second time in six months, that Ohio is not following its own rules when conducting executions.

These latest developments happen against a backdrop of the Ohio Supreme Court commissioning a joint task force to examine the fairnes and accuracy of Ohio's death penalty system. 

You can easily be involved with the work to end the death penalty even if you are busy with other things. One way you can help us to reach more people is by letting us know where we can be in your community. Does your town have a music festival, parade or other gathering where organizations set up informational booths? Let us know what's happening in your area and we'll be sure we have a presence. 

You also can take advantage of our speakers bureau by inviting us to your local community. We are prepared to facilitate a discussion, to screen any number of death penalty documentary films, or we'll work with you to create an educational gathering that suits your needs and is tailored to your community.

We offer a wide range of volunteer opportunities and we can always use the technical expertise or skills you have to offer. As a non-profit, we need lots of help in areas ranging from communications and organizational documents to fundraising and newsletter editing.
